Cambridge Engineering Selector (CES) is a Materials Database Program by Granta Design

The MAE Dept. has 10 seats of CES installed in EBU2-239, computers 1-10.

To Familiarize yourself with CES as part of an Individual Component Analysis

  • Go through the Getting Started Guide which is accessible in the software via: Programs => CES => Getting Started Guides

  • Read Intro and Chapters 5 and 6 in Materials Selection in Mechanical Design by Michael F. Ashby. The electronic version of this book is available from UCSD library when you are on campus or using VPN.

  • The Art and Science of Material Selection in Product Design is another text by Michael Ashby with a focus on Materials for Product Design.The electronic version of this book is available from UCSD library when you are on campus or using VPN.
