Example Solution for Equivalent Inertia
Questions were raised on how equivalent inertia is calculated and how gear ratios effect this. Specifically, the question asked is why inertia is multiplied by the gear ratio squared. The answer is determined by going through the Free Body DIagrams, like we did for the mass raising a pulley problem in week 1. For guidance, I just posted a solution with 2 rotary motions, which is closer to the problem that the class is working on. The solution file is: "RotaryDynamicsSolution.pdf" in Assignments. I have recived some question about the HW. I welcome questions but note that the answers are in the Lectures and the reference links at the bottom of the HW. 
Sunday Design Studio Hours: 1/25 10amnoon
Students can pick up kit parts and begin fabrication of the One Timing Belt Challenge on Sunday. The Design Studio will remain open 10amnoon and up to 1pm if students are around. 
Machine Shop Sections Start Monday 10/19
Lab sections will be held in the Machine Shop, EBU2B35 (Basement) starting on Monday 10/19. Make sure to wear closed toes shoes and clothes appropriate for the machine shop (there are protective shop coats). Long hear, earrings, and necklaces will have to be secured. 
MATLAB workshop Fri Jan 9, 3:30pm5:00pm EBU2 RM 239
Matlab workshop will be a refresher to the matlab tools you will need for 156a. Topics include: Solving ODE's using matlab Explicit Euler Plotting All of these tools will be used in your first homework assignment: Motor Simulation 
Joint Lecture in WLH 2205 and Labs Start Week 1 in EBU2311
The first lab will meet in EBU2311 (opposite the Design Studio). The first lab will introduce sensors and the Arduino microprocessor which will be used in the Mechatronics project. Both Section A00 and B00 will meet together for lecture in WLH 2205
